Have a Heart Run: May 14, 2011

Check out our facebook site for some photos!

On May 14, 2011, 230 runners and walkers and over 70 volunteers came out in support of Community Action’s second annual Have a Heart Run fundraiser. The 10k run and 2 mile run/walk course ran along the beautiful Skagit River dike just south of Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon. Children of all ages participated helping us raise over $20,000!

Awards were given to the top times for both male and female in each division. In the 10k division Bryce Hoefer with a best time for males at 38:05, took home his trophy and Nancy Harsch at 44:59 took home her trophy for the female. Shelly Young with a time of 16:05 secured her trophy as did Hector Brant at age 15 came in with a time of 14:44 in the 2 mile division. Good job everyone!

Thank you baskets were also given to individuals and teams who raised additional pledges to help us help low-income individuals and families overcome the multiple barriers to stability and self-sufficiency. Special thanks to Julia Johnson and LaVonne Parker who raised over $1,000 for the ‘where the greatest need is’!

Over 70 volunteers (a total of 228 hours), contributed too to the success of this event including the BEHS Cheerleaders, an African Hand Drum band, and over 20 service men and women from Whidbey Island Navy base.

Community Action would like to thank all those who participated in our annual Have a Heart Run event, especially to the Skagit Volunteer Center for helping recruit all these wonderful volunteers. Race results and a link to photos on our Facebook site are available at www.haveaheartrun.org
